“Watercloset” was one of several bathroom and toilet units of the “Soft Edge” collection from 1995. The exhibition accompanying the collection allowed the artist to enact a contractor, building a bathroom for the client-visitor. Made of polyester, usually functional objects had softened into waste, proving to be a blockage for the contractor-artist. The “Soft Edge” collection was created in contrast to the “Hard Edge” collection of the late 1980s, which consisted of minimal art in the form of tables and shelving units. Made according to a modular system, the “Hard Edge” collection suggested art as infrastructure and support.
