Peter Pincus’s “Urn” (2016) is a unique piece made by the artist for Chamber. Made of colored porcelain and gold luster, it is a reinvestigation of a form the artist first made in 2005. “Each time I remake it, I try to play with formal relationships, like that between lip and foot or between stem and belly, to ultimately create a balanced form that to some extent defies architectural logic,” says Pincus. The elegant tall off-white structure has a colorful midriff made of small vertical bands of color. By cutting the original band into a hundred small pieces, sanding each carefully, and building a complex form around the reconstructed band, the artist has created an undulating, delicate display of color.
