This is one of the first examples of Braun’s design projects of the 1960s, grand but unobtrusive, leaving its potential user ample freedom for personal fulfilment. Rams exploited newly developed transistor technology in the slim housing of this “TS 45” control unit, which could be mounted on a wall alongside the correspondingly flat “L 450” loudspeaker to create a striking ribbon of audio equipment. The “TS 45” was one of the first designs issued in the new, severely industrial style through which Braun Design made its contribution to the development of midcentury functionalist industrial design. More recently, images of the “TS 45” in Rams’ study have come to confirm its status as a keystone of Braun Design.
