When the first edition of her monograph, published in 2010, sold out of its 3,200 copies, Boom considered making the second a little bigger. The complete new edition was finally printed in two formats: a miniature book, an idea Boom experimented with for a 2010 show in Amsterdam; and a XXL version, extended by 96 pages. The XXL edition’s huge format shows what remains hidden in the miniature book, revealing the specific elements of the design. “The Architecture of the Book” not only features books, but also corporate identity designs, postage stamps and posters. It includes a new introduction by Rem Koolhaas, who also designed the type on the cover, and a specimen from a blind- embossed book recently designed for Chanel.
