The “Smica Lamp” is a table lamp cast in pure white Gypsum with a contrasting bronze stand by Studio Job. While the minimal elegance of the lamp’s cool exterior thrives on simplicity, its interior is cavernous and crude, a place of both shadow and light. This is achieved by the same modelling software used to design bestial skins as well as other intricate surfaces for animation. Inspired by the ornate surfaces of landscape, moonscape and aging skin, the inside can be seen with the help of a mirror, attached to the stand. Studio Job’s stand can be removed to transform it into a hanging lamp, which illuminates further our curiosity for tactile pleasures.
