The layout of the “RT 20” control panel follows that of the earlier “SK Phonosuper.” Here the turntable element has been substituted with a circular slotted speaker grill. Although the “RT 20” employs a similar combination of pale wooden casing and painted metal finish as the earlier “SK Phonosuper,” its tone is inclined toward the industrial. Moreover, the design is reduced to such an extent that it consists largely of the rational surface of its control panel, meaning that it does not take anything away from its function. Though less well known than either the “SK Phonosuper” or “TS 45,” the balance of natural warmth and technological austerity achieved by Rams in “RT 20” sets it apart as one of his greatest works.
