This design was commissioned as part of Swarovski Crystal Palace, a project which invites leading designers to reinterpret the traditional chandelier using the emotive medium of cut crystal. In their first experimentation with the material, Front let precision-cut crystals of different shapes and colors merge with hot liquid glass. The result was a series of vases: unique, undesigned and given their own individual expression. Although a vase, “Randomly Crystalline” collects light which catches on the crystals, refracting off the multitude of surfaces. Front made another version as a lamp, with which they were able to direct light, rather than let the object respond to its environment.
