This rug is based on a past collaboration between Studio Job and Viktor & Rolf. For the Autumn/Winter 2013 show at Paris Fashion Week, Studio Job designed the scenography, consisting of a backdrop and catwalk. The latter was covered with the digital print of a worn out parquet in a herringbone pattern. Later it was applied to the dance floor of the Dutch National Ballet. Even though the herringbone can easily be replicated in fabric, especially by Nodus’ Andrea Galimberti, the owner who “can knot rugs like a truck driver maneuvers a big truck through a metropole,” as Job describes, Studio Job have kept up the pretence by making this wool rug look like a fake hardwood floor. This is another example of the Dutch designers playing with expectations—referencing tradition and breaking it.
