“Milky Way” is a kinetic object that is inspired by optical experiments conducted by Man Ray and Marcel Duchamp, recorded in the film Anémic Cinéma (1926). Discs printed with circular and abstract forms were rotated on spindles creating a visual 3D space, instead of printed graphic Silo Studio uses layers of perforated steel mesh creating moiré effects that disrupt our perception of space and motion. Silo Studio has taken this principle to give the impression of an undulating optical space. The spinning motion is driven by electromagnetic forces that are governed by the swing of this disc-shaped pendulum.
