“Flame Cut Lamp” is an ultra-heavyweight, cantilevered solid steel desk or floor lamp with an adjustable slotted mechanism, which enables the lamp to be reconfigured in three different angles and five heights. It is the only lighting object in the Flame Cut series, built from inch-thick, hot-rolled, flame cut steel. The name refers also to Sudely Castle, a historic building in Gloucestershire that has been ransacked, burnt down and ravaged several times over the last 700 years, and for which the collection was conceived. While the walls of the structure still exist, none of its original contents survived. Built to last another 700 years, the lamp undermines the short-lived nature of furnishing in contemporary design.
