“Diffident Obleisk” is a sculpture from the “Healed Fractures II (Diagenesis Series).” In the “Diagenesis” (latin. change origin) series objects in anthracite are created to report about the metamorphose process and to illustrate the origin of the material. Anthracite is a fractural material that breaks through natural erosion — sediments go through fractures and slowly rebuild a rock with new pattern. This geological process is called Healed Fractures. In “Healed Fractures” anthracite has gone through a manmade metamorphosis. After generating an initial set of objects, Hellström cracks them to piece them together in new shapes with an artificial sediment.
