Although the color of this bookcase is not immediately evocative of the sea, the shelves mirror the sea stratum by getting progressively darker from top to bottom, where they turn a brown hue. The sea, after all, is colored by what is underneath. Despite the color gradation, the furniture remains transparent from any angle, so any object placed upon its surface seems to float. In fact, adding objects only intensifies the differences between the “ocean depths” of each sheet. By treating glass in this way, Nendo and Glas Italia have made furniture that, although inconspicuous, demands your attention.
