“The starting point of my work for this exhibition was to imagine and create a weird and unusual texture that I could then apply on different archetypal functional objects,” says Babin. The same lamp, made of basic cylinders and rectangles has been replicated into three tall versions and one small. On those empty and anonymous objects Babin applied unexpected textures, colors and patterns, making each lamp either attractive or repulsive depending on the viewer. “Coal Soul” lamp is matt, dark and rough piece that seems to have been burnt or age. It is a still and silent object, frozen like a statue.
