After ten years of being a non-smoker, Job started smoking again, confessing, “How stupid of me! I hate myself!” One of the consequences was the redesign of the everyday ashtray. In Studio Job’s typically opulent style, it appears as a chimney with a bronze base. On top of its slender, cigarette-like neck, sits the bronze ashtray. This is not the first chimney by Studio Job. The 2006 “Robber Baron Table,” shaped as a factory, had four chimney legs blowing bronze smoke. As with the factory, the red-bricked chimney evokes a traditional setting as well as an idea of looking back and romanticizing the past, which had seduced Job into smoking.
