“The starting point of my work for this exhibition was to imagine and create a weird and unusual texture that I could then apply on different archetypal functional objects,” says Babin. The same lamp, made of basic cylinders and rectangles has been replicated into three tall versions and one small. On those empty and anonymous objects Babin applied unexpected textures, colors and patterns, making each lamp either attractive or repulsive depending on the viewer. “Chewed” is in British racing green color — a shiny and elegant paint usually used on sport cars. But this lamp won’t go anywhere with its totally irregular, bumpy and heavy body.
