When it first appeared at the 1958 Brussels World Fair, the “Brillant” typified the feeling of renewal and progress of the time. The bag is made of 64 different pieces. It has a soft interior and rigid exterior, manufactured separately from one another. Its flap has a smoothly cut edge, while the rounded handles are achieved by the use of a stringing machine. The “Brillant” is assembled inside out, then turned the right way around to achieve its characteristic curve. This technique, known as the “Montagne Passepoilé,” has become a Delvaux tradition. The “Brillant” is still produced today, as part of the Heritage Collection, chosen because it gives a snapshot of Delvaux’s design legacy and is a timeless classic in its own right.
