Born in Maastricht, Dutch artist Pieter ‘Parra’ Janssen is based in Amsterdam, where he works across drawing, painting, animation and sculpture. Parra is best known for his curved post-pop imagery, highly saturated colours, vibrant hand-drawn letters and worlds inhabited by hybrid, surreal characters. From the outset, his instantly recognisable style was quickly championed by an underground following. His career is equally celebrated by galleries, with solo exhibitions in London, Paris, Barcelona, Los Angeles, Miami, Milan, Berlin and Tokyo. In 2010 Parra won ‘Best Illustration’ at the Dutch Designer Awards and the Amsterdam Art Prize. The following year he was awarded the D&AD Silver Pencil for Tastebuddies campaign. Parra is a cofounder of cult apparel label Rockwell Clothing and a member of electronic music group Le Le.
