Designer and artist Pieke Bergmans (b. 1978, Sprang-Capelle, The Netherlands) earned her degrees in design from The Design Academy Eindhoven and The Royal College of Art, London. After her studies Bergmans opened her studio Design Virus in Amsterdam in 2006. In her hands “glass becomes a virus, able to invade existing furniture and alter its form and function.” Glass became her medium after she saw master glassblowers at the Royal Leerdam Crystal factory. In 2014 Noordbrabants Museum in s’Hertogenbosch held a retrospective of Bergmans’s work. Her work has been exhibited worldwide at the Centre Pompidou, Victoria & Albert Museum, Boijmans van Beuningen, and Groninger Museum among others.
