The work of Nao Tamura (b. 1976, Tokyo), a New York–based designer, defies easy definition. Namura is open in her approach to and embrace of materials, aesthetics, and function, putting care to creating unearthly light installations and functional home objects as well as handcrafted carpets. “I like using natural material like glass or wood because the results are always something beyond my expectation and I like the challenge to play with something I can’t control,” she says. Her work was recently exhibited at the Palais de Tokyo for the D’Days Paris Show, and will be part of the International Exposition at the Triennale di Milano in September 2016.
