Matali Crasset trained as an industrial designer at ENSCI-Les Ateliers in Paris, where she is based. Always in search of new territories to explore, she collaborates with eclectic worlds from crafts to electronic music, from the textiles industry to fair trade; realising projects in set design, furniture, architecture and graphics. Crasset considers design as research. Rather than propose improvements for what already exists, she invents new typologies and relations to objects in an everyday space around principles such as modularity or networks. Crasset works with a variety of actors, just as easily as with an industrialist or craftsman, increasingly choosing participative projects, both in rural and urban settings. Collaborating with artists, as well as municipalities and communes, ultimately it’s the core question of living together that defines her designs.
