Jonah Takagi - Artists - Chamber Gallery

Designer Jonah Takagi (b. 1979, Tokyo, Japan) lives and works in Washington D.C. Takagi obtained his BFA from The Rhode Island School of Design in 2002 and launched his studio Atelier Takagi in 2009. Most recently, Takagi took part of “Furnishing Utopia” for which he produced design pieces based on the American Shaker Movement, and French Embassy’s initiative “Oui Design/CIRVA” in 2016. He is inpired by creatives from various fields, such as Robert Irwin, Ariel Pink, Atelier Van Lieshout, Deerhoof, Konstantin Grcic and Imi Knoebel. Takagi says: “Up until recently I have preffered to stay within my comfort zone of materials and typologies that I understand and can releate to. Creating work for Matylda’s [Krzykowski] show at Chamber, specifically work that will be viewed in a gallery setting, has allowed me to step beyond what is typical of my studio.”
