Master ceramicist and artisan Jeremy Cole was born in New Zealand
and came to ceramics by way of a chance encounter at the Tate
Modern in London. After experiencing the work of Tim Gee in 2
004, Cole was inspired to explore the world of ceramics and began teaching
himself the craft with focused determination that turned an abstract
interest into a passion-filled creative endeavor. After producing his first
piece, the Aloe Blossom, Cole’s work was exhibited internationally, and
he began designing floral-inspired ceramic lighting fixtures for a starry
roster of clientele including Harry Winston, Neiman Marcus, and the
late Michael Jackson. Now, more than 10 years later, Cole’s body of
work continues to challenge the limits of ceramic as a medium, toeing
the fine line between art and function. His design philosophy is simple: beauty, elegance, and craftsmanship are the principles by which he creates. In 2009, Cole left London and returned to his native New Zealand, where he designs, handcrafts and produces his work from his
studio in Wellington.
