Jelle Mastenbroek graduated the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2012. An artist and designer, Mastenbroek is also a storyteller, continually searching for multi-layered interpretations and the true meaning of things. Mastenbroek encourages the user to approach the world in a different, more reflective way by designing non-standard objects, that reveal their social context. Questioning should be positive; without it we burden objects with existing stereotypes. As Mastenbroek says, “I’m providing objects with duty free happiness.” By aspiring to redefine cliché, Mastenbroek is more than a storyteller. His work, exhibited throughout Netherlands and Milan, shows that wonder can provoke change. He continues to work in Eindhoven where he is also chairman of the design collective, Collaboration O.
