Born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, designer Jason Horvath has
possessed an entrepreneurial spirit from a young age—at 10 years old,
he began sewing and selling kites. Always interested in making and
building things, he began to work with wood in high school, and had his
first wood-working job crafting cheese boards and salad tongs. He
attended the Rhode Island School of Design, originally for sculpture,
but quickly transferred into the industrial design program because of
his innate interest in the working relationship and balance between
fine art and design. Upon graduating, Horvath worked for an interior
designer, which provided him the tools and experience with building
client relationships and selling that would help him understand and
excel in the furniture industry. He co-founded the multi-disciplinary
design studio Uhuru in 2004 with Bill Hilgendorf, and currently works
out of Red Hook, Brooklyn.
