Jakub Berdych Karpelis (b. 1971, Prague, Czech Republic) is the co-founder of Czech design studio Qubus. Since its inception in 2002, Qubus focuses on conceptual projects in traditional Czech materials, glass and porcelain. One of the best-known Qubus projects was the conversion of the interior of St Bartholomew’s Church in Chodovice. You can find examples of Jakub’s work in galleries in the Czeck Republic and abroad, including Moss in New York and Mint in London, as well as in several museum collections such as the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague and Die Neue Sammlung – Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich, and in private collections too. In addition to conceptual and product design, Jakub works on projects for interior design, architecture and fine art. Since 2008 he has been the Artistic Director of Dox by Qubus, a shop located in DOX Center for Contemporary Art in Prague that offers well-known names and international brands alongside a selection of contemporary Czech design and applied art.
