Founded by Gregory Buntain and Ian Collings, Fort Standard is a
contemporary industrial design studio based in Brooklyn, New York,
producing their own line of products and furniture that are the
foundation of their studio. The pair met while attending Pratt Institute
and shared an experience studying at the Bauhaus University in
Weimar, Germany, where they became close friends and collaborators.
With a design philosophy relying on structural simplicity, integrity, and
honesty of materials, their work together is a result of an ever-evolving
dialogue between their unique perspectives and shared approach to
design and its processes.
They favor working with long lasting, natural materials and
tend to employ more traditional production methods in
new and innovative ways. Fort Standard produces an impressive
variety of products, including home goods, toys, jewelry and furniture.
As a studio, their goal is to strike a balance between form and function
while producing unique pieces that adhere to what they describe as a
signature “warm-contemporary” aesthetic.
