Azuma Makoto - Featured Artists

Born in Fukuoka, Japan in 1976, Azuma Makoto’s interest in floral art began when he worked as a trader in a flower market in Tokyo, becoming enthralled by the art of flower arrangement. He co-founded JARDINS des FLEURS, and as the business grew, he developed the concept of “botanical sculpture” launching Makoto into worldwide recognition. His interest lies in elevating the value of flowers through artwork by honoring their natural dignity, ever-changing context, and bringing forth the unique and mysterious forms in which they can be expressed. In 2009, he launched the experimental botanical lab, Azuma Makoto Kaju Kenkyusho (AMKK), to continue his practice creating inventive installations for art museums, galleries, and public spaces.
